The Peace Cairn at Rossnolagh, County Donegal, Ireland, is the inspiration for the Butte peace cairn. People built small stones into a permanent monument for peace. Its web site, www.iol.ie/~mcmullin/cairn.htm, describes the idea as aÊburial place for enmity and violence. Its growth comesÊover time from people wishing to make a personal statement for nonviolent peace. It is in a permanent state of change. Permanence reminds of peace and what we can do to bring it about. Its state of change reminds that peace is just the first step in an ongong commitment to the continuing effort. The cairn in Butte may eventually be an oblisk shape. It will be the first piece in a sculpture park to be overseen byÊGlen Bodish of the Arts Chateau.
